Friday, July 29th

Friday was a great day to end the week with! We were so glad the weather was (finally) nice.

In Nature, the campers got to make "bread on a stick" and also go berry picking.
The gazebo at Pow Wow Point is a great place to hang out!

It was tie-dye day in arts and crafts, and Laura helped all the campers make beautiful dyed shirts and pillowcases.

Everyone was really proud of their creations.

Riding lessons were also a lot of fun, and since everyone improved so much, we did a lot of trotting!

Friday wouldn't be complete without a visit to the Trading Post, where everyone got to buy camp souvenirs and snacks.

Thanks for coming this week!

The Pintos practice leading with their adopted horse Quincey.

The Quarter Horses use pressure points to back their adopted horse Shadow in an L-shape.

In riding, everyone practiced steering by weaving the poles.

During arts and crafts the campers made horse journals to write their memories in.

Nature leader Katherine taught lessons on clouds.

Everyone played "horses, knights and cavaliers" in sports.

Adopt-A-Horse Week, July 25-29

Here are some photos of our activities today at camp!

The Arabians enjoy riding right after lunch. Chloe and her rider are doing a great job cutting across!
Quincey and Chloe avoid a mud puddle.

Tissue paper makes great colorful crafts!

The Shetlands pose for a picture before going on a nature hike.

The Pintos played an intense game of "people-to-people" at the beginning of sports. It is a great way to learn names!

Thanks for a great Monday, everyone!

Horse Bathing Pictures

Here are some pictures of the horse bathing from Thursday.

First, the campers scrubbed the shampoo into the horses' coats.
The Shetlands worked hard scrubbing Ladd!

After the horse gets hosed off, then all the excess water must be scraped off.

The horses loved getting bathed!

On Friday, everyone made edible acquifers with ice cream and soda. It was the perfect cool treat to end the hot week!

Thanks for coming this week everyone!

Wednesday, July 20th and Thursday, July 21st

Wednesday was the hottest day of the week! We did our best to keep everyone as cool as possible.

Nature leader Megan led classes in the shade of the willow tree.
Everyone rode in the morning since the afternoon would be hotter.

We still enjoyed riding even though it was quite warm!

Wednesday afternoon we left camp and went to the pool. That was a great way to stay comfortable.

We were glad Thursday was much nicer!

In sports we competed in relay races.

We took trail rides in the morning and then did larger group activities in the afternoon.

We played water baseball which was a great variation on the game.

Thursday afternoon the campers also got to bathe some of the horses, as well as get a picture of themselves on a horse.

Thanks everyone for getting through some very hot days!

Heat (I mean Horse) Lover's Week, July 18th-22nd

It has been a hot week so far at Hoofbeat! With such high temperatures, we are taking extra precautions to keep the campers and horses safe.
All campers must take a water bottle with them to each activity, and some groups are even having competitions to see which camper can fill their bottle up the most.
We are also playing lots of water games and not running around in the sun.
On Wednesday we are planning on taking a trip to the pool to keep everyone cool and give the horses a break.

The Morgans had their horse science lesson in the Lodge to stay out of the heat.
That fan feels good!

The Arabians still had a good time riding despite the hot temperature.

Playing "drip, drip, drop" in sports helps cool us off!

The campers made cool picture frames during arts and crafts.

Those will look good with pictures of horses in them!

We are having a good week so far finding ways to beat the heat!

Leftover Pictures from Week 5 (July 11-15)

Here are a few pictures from the end of week five.
The Arabians line up to trot on Friday.
Everyone got to make fuse bead creations during arts and crafts.

On Thursday, riding instructor Nina teaches a lesson on showing horses.

Here, the Quarter Horses try English style riding.

Thursday, July 14th

We are having another great day at camp! We love that it is not too hot out! The horses are happy about that too.

Today we got to go on trail rides and also try the English style of riding.
There are no saddle horns on English saddles!

In the morning, the sports groups played kickball. This afternoon it might be warm enough for water games!

Thursday is (almost) always tie-dye day. The shirts are turning out great so far!

Adopt-A-Horse Week

It is time for Adopt-A-Horse week again at Hoofbeat! Monday was a bit rainy, but Tuesday and Wednesday have been perfect days! We are enjoying the beautiful weather.

Here are our groups this week!

The Falabellas and group leader Katherine:
The Shetlands and group leader Laura:

The Pintos and group leader Josh:

The Arabians and group leader Samantha:

The Morgans and group leader Mackenzie:

The Quarter Horses and group leader Megan:

Monday morning we spent inside waiting for it to clear up, and then did our regular rotations in the afternoon.

On Tuesday we followed a regular schedule so we had plenty of time to ride.

During Riding, the campers got to try doing an "around-the-world" at the end of their lesson.

The groups also got to try doing a "half-circle" so they could go the opposite direction.

In sports on Tuesday, everyone played competitive games of Capture the Flag.

During Nature, the campers learned how to identify different types of trees.

The campers made tree books to remember how to identify the trees they learned about.

During arts and crafts, everyone made horse head journals. They will be a great way to record what happened this week at camp!

Wednesday was filled with campfire cooking, playing "toxic river," making cool tissue paper creations, and of course spending time with the horses!

It has been a great week so far!
