Week One of Day Camp

We had a fabulous first week of Day Camp!
Riding
One of the highlights of each day was each group’s riding class! We worked on a lot of different skills and exercises this week. Each day, we reviewed Hoofbeat’s 5 S’s, which were starting, stopping, steering, spacing, and squirreling. It was great seeing the girls improve on these skills in such a short amount of time! We also worked on trotting our horses down the long wall and sitting up tall with our hands low while doing so. In between practice and trotting, we played games such as the Post Game, Steal the Carrot, and relay races! Thank you all for working so hard and being a fun group to work with, have a great rest of your summers!

Horse Science
We had a blast in horse science this week! On Monday we went over our barn safety rules as well as touring our barn. Tuesday was focused on learning about the different colors and markings of horses. We even got to see examples of these colors on our horses here at Hoofbeat! Over the next few days, some topics that were covered in the different classes were health and diseases, pregnancy and foaling, and psychology! Thanks for making this week fun and informative!

Horse Fun
Horse fun was loads of fun! We learned about how to safely and thoroughly groom a horse on Monday, and all of the girls got to practice on one of our horses! On Tuesday, we learned about show grooming and how to do many different types of braids in your horse’s mane or tail. On Wednesday, we went on a barn scavenger hunt looking for various horse-related items! On Thursday, we tested our knowledge of our Hoofbeat horses by playing Celebrity Horse (which is a lot like the game HedBanz). On Friday we wrapped up our week by grooming and decorating one of our Hoofbeat horses. It was a great week full of horses and fun, thank you for coming to Hoofbeat!

Arts & Crafts
We loved getting creative in arts & crafts this week! We had a hawaiian dress-up theme on Friday, so many of our crafts were also Hawaiian and tropical-themed! On Monday we made beautiful jellyfish out of coffee filters and various colors of yarn. Tuesday got really fun when we made pineapples out of pinecones! We loved seeing how creative that the girls got when making their pineapple stems and adding accessories! On Wednesday, we made beautiful patterned fish out of paper plates. Thursday was a camp favorite - tie dye! Who doesn’t love making a beautiful piece of art that can also be worn? On Friday, we made our own Hawaiian leis. Thanks for being so artistic!

Sports
We had a blast getting active in sports this week! On Monday we played a fun get-to-know-you game, Fruit Bowl. Spud was the game of choice for Tuesday. It was amazing to see the girls attempt to tag each other and work on their throwing skills! On Wednesday we played Night at the Museum (which some call Statues). We shared a lot of laughter seeing the interesting and hilarious poses that the girls froze in to avoid being seen by the guard! Throughout and finishing the week, other crowd favorites to play were Frogger, Mafia, Numbers, and Captain May I Cross Your Ship. Thanks for an engaging and active week!

Nature
We had a great and peaceful time in nature! On Monday, the girls all gathered leaves and made beautiful leaf rubbings using the texture of the leaves they chose. On Tuesday, we went on a scavenger hunt of lower camp! The girls loved getting to search for not only nature’s creations, but other hidden treasures at Hoofbeat! On Wednesday, the girls tested our their sense of smell by smelling various spices that can be extracted from different plants and used for cooking! On Wednesday, the creativity was flowing as the girls created their very own cross-breed of different animals! On Friday, each group got to venture into our camp store, Trading Post. Thank you all for a fun and adventurous week!
